Frequently Asked Questions

❓ What’s included in a Canoe Hire Pro setup?

Every Canoe Hire Pro build is fully bespoke, tailored to your location, budget, and goals. That said, a typical 8-canoe setup might include:

  • 8 fully equipped canoes or sit-on-top kayaks
  • 16 paddles and buoyancy aids
  • 8 sets of buoyancy blocks (for safety)
  • Trailer for 8 boats (braked or unbraked)
  • Optional branding kit: gazebo, flags, banners, signage
  • Setup support, safety templates, and marketing advice

This is just an example your kit will be built to match your specific needs.

❓ Can I brand my business or do I use Canoe Hire Pro?

You can call your business anything you like. This is not a franchise you have full control. You can:

  • Launch a brand-new name
  • Add it to an existing business
  • Just update your website with a new page showing what you offer and how to book

We’ll help you make it look professional, but the brand and customer experience are all yours.

❓ What access to water do I need?

You’ll need at least one of the following:

  • Riparian access (landowner permission)
  • A licence from a navigation authority (e.g. Canal & River Trust, Environment Agency)
  • Landowner sign-off for private lakes or loughs

We’ll help you understand your options and what’s needed at your location.

❓ Do I need insurance?

Yes — we recommend:

  • Public liability insurance (min. £5M)
  • Employers’ liability insurance (if you’re hiring staff)
  • Equipment cover for trailer and boats

We can refer you to brokers who specialise in outdoor and watersports businesses.

❓ When is the best time to launch a hire business?

The UK season runs from Easter to September, with May to August being peak months. Ideally, your setup should be ready by early spring.

But if it’s autumn or winter, that’s actually a great time to start. Off-season setup means you can:

  • Take advantage of equipment discounts
  • Get permissions, branding, and logistics sorted without time pressure
  • Launch your marketing early, so you’re already visible and bookable before Easter
  • Be fully prepared to hit the ground running as soon as spring arrives

Even if it’s October or January, we can help you set up for a flying start next season.

❓ Do I need qualifications or training?

Not for standard canoe hire. We provide:

  • Staff training templates
  • Optional coaching or onboarding days
  • Safety briefing guidance

If you want to run guided or coached trips, you or your staff will need British Canoeing qualifications.

❓ What kind of support do you offer?

Ongoing support includes:

  • Annual site visits or check-ins
  • Help with branding and promo materials
  • Optional marketing support or consulting
  • Access to templates for risk assessments, insurance, booking forms, and more

We don’t just drop off a trailer — we help your business grow.

❓ Can you help with planning and permissions?

Yes. We can support with:

  • Identifying suitable launch/landing sites
  • Landowner permission discussions
  • Local authority requirements
  • Navigating environmental concerns or planning applications
❓ How long does setup take?

Once you confirm your build, most setups are ready in 4–6 weeks, including ordering, delivery, branding, and paperwork. Timelines can vary slightly depending on stock and site complexity, but we’ll keep things moving fast and smooth.

❓ Can I pay in stages?

We offer flexible terms depending on how soon you’re planning to launch. But to protect both of us, all equipment is prepaid before ordering, and final fees are cleared before handover. It keeps everything clean and on schedule.
